Light up the hall

At night the hall grows dark. Every lamp lit makes it brighter, and the Buddha easier to see. An ordinary lamp is free and burns for two hours; a golden lantern is a paid item and glows for 24 hours. Joining palms, bowing, writing a wish and talking with the temple's animals are always free too. No ads, no personal data.

Each item is a symbol on the screen: no monk performs a ritual, and no outcome is promised. Buy or not, everyone lights lamps and bows alike.

About this hall

A small quiet place on the internet, open to everyone and every faith. No sign-up needed, no comments, no ads.

Every number here is real: the people sitting here are live connections right now; the lanterns are lanterns actually lit.

The sound is generated live on your device (WebAudio) — no copyrighted recordings.

AI is used in two places only: your wish, while "Receive a gentle reply" is ticked (sent once); and what you say to the animal walking with you (sent with the last few lines of the talk, so it can answer). The hall stores and logs neither. Your wishes and replies stay on your device; a talk is gone when you close the page.

3D models: the Buddha is a scan by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (CC0); dog, buffalo and deer by Quaternius (CC0); the beach driftwood and rocks, the sky and the surface photo textures from Poly Haven (CC0); fruit by Kenney and BlenderVoyage, flowers by Quaternius (CC0); duck and egret by Poly by Google and the peach by jeremy, via Poly Pizza (CC BY 3.0), modified; water ripples from three.js (MIT). The novices, the gate, the cat, the fish, the trees and the Japanese temple's things were made for this site.

Your wishes stay on this device — unless you ask for a reply; then a wish is sent once and not kept.
